Artistic Identity and Musical Training

International blues guitarist, Ricardo Maranhão began his musical journey at the age of 9 and has built a career with over 1,000 live performances. His sound is original, with strong influences from both classic and contemporary blues.

Part of his musical training took place in the United States, including time in:

  • Nashville (TN) — country and bluegrass
  • Mississippi — birthplace of the blues

During this period, performed with international artists such as Shaun Murphy, backing vocalist for Eric Clapton.

International Recognition, Media Exposure and Awards

In 2015, signed with Star 1 Records, gained prominence on U.S. radio with “Pull the Trigger” (reaching 6th position on the charts), and expanded his international presence, with coverage by Rolling Stone and MTV (U.S.).

Ricardo has received major international awards, with emphasis on the Akademia Music Awards, including:

  • “We Could Be True” — Best Pop/Funk Song
  • “Wait” — Best Blues Song
  • Best Funk Song (2021) — global recognition

Bands, Festivals and Artistic Consolidation

Former member of the band Milk n’ Blues, Ricardo won the A Chance Music Festival alongside harmonica player Indiara Sfair, outperforming more than 130 artists. He also performed at international festivals such as the Sherbrooke Folk & Blues Festival, in Canada.

In 2020, Ricardo released his first solo album, Iwersen, featuring 12 original tracks, solidifying his artistic identity. That same year, performed at the Curitiba Blues Festival, on the stage of Pedreira Paulo Leminski.

Consolidation in Brazil and Current Projects

In November 2020, Ricardo signed with Midas Music, the largest independent record label in Brazil, under the direction of Rick Bonadio, and released the single “Que Falta Você Faz” in 2021.

Currently, his second studio album, To Make Home, Be Home, is available on all digital platforms through Believe / Make Music Records.

For 2026, the release of a new single by the Ricardo Maranhão Trio is scheduled, produced by Tim Carmon and accompanied by a music video, continuing his original and international artistic journey.

    The song “Wait” won the award for Best Blues Song, reinforcing its relevance in contemporary blues. In the same year, it won Best Funk Song, highlighting its artistic versatility.

    He was elected one of the 36 leading blues guitarists in Brazil.
